The Jean Dinges Memorial Scholarship and Endowment Fund at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield, IL was created in memory of Jean Dinges, who passed away in 2016 following her battle with cancer.  Jean was a vivacious, vibrant woman with an unprecedented passion for life.  She was born and raised in Belleville, IL, and she was second to none in her commitment to her community and showing her care for others.

Many things brought Jean joy, but she was especially proud of her granddaughter, Kate Renner (SIU School of Medicine, Class of 2016), for pursuing a career in medicine.  Jean was an avid supporter of women's education - particularly of women entering careers in math, science, and medicine.  She often stated how proud and impressed she was, specifically, of the education Kate received at SIU School of Medicine, and loved to promote and support the school.

The Jean Dinges Memorial Scholarship and Endowment Fund at SIU School of Medicine was created to initiate an annual scholarship to be awarded to a First or Second Year female medical student at SIU School of Medicine, to support her educational endeavors.  In turn, we hope to support female physicians dedicated to providing excellent quality healthcare in Southern Illinois.

In Jean's spirit, the award will be given each year to the student who is best able to demonstrate her vibrant nature, passion for education and medicine, and fervor for life through an essay application.  Special preference will be given to students from Belleville, IL.

For those able to attend, an annual event will be held as both a fundraiser and celebration of women's education.  More information about the event, as well as links to purchase tickets, can be found by clicking the Luncheon & Auction Link at the top left of this page.  For those unable to attend and celebrate, all donations are appreciated.

Access to excellent quality healthcare is of utmost importance - for ourselves and future generations who will live in our community.  This scholarship will benefit a future physician with commitment to that very goal, while celebrating the work of female physicians.

Our Scholarship Fund has a goal of $25,000 - once this goal is reached, the Endowment Fund is self-sustainable, and the interest gained from that investment will be the annual scholarship awarded.

All donors will be notified when the scholarship recipient is chosen, annually.

Thank you, in advance, for your support!
